MacB Employees Participating in 2016 Air Force Marathon Events
Good luck to the 63 employees of MacAulay-Brown, Inc., as well as family members and guests participating in weekend activities in Dayton, Ohio for the 20th Annual Air Force Marathon. More than 90 people will receive an official MacB T-shirt to wear during sponsored events, whether they are running, walking, volunteering or cheering. The Air Force Marathon is an annual endurance event held the third Saturday of September at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The Air Force Marathon features four event distances including a full marathon, half marathon, 10k and a 5K race. The 5K race, sponsored by Wright State University, will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 16. The annual Gourmet Pasta Dinner at the famed National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is also set for Friday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Modern Flight hanger. The full Marathon and 10K race will start at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, with the Wheeled Marathon and Half Marathon also set for Saturday, with start times at 7:25 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. respectively.
The full marathon is a 26.2-mile run that navigates historical places on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, including the National Museum, the Air Force Institute of Technology, Headquarters Air Force Material Command, the Wright-Patterson AFB flight line, Huffman Prairie Flying Field and the Wright Brothers Memorial Monument.
“MacB has sponsored participating employees and families since the marathon’s first race held in 1997,” says Katherine Gaskill, Senior Director of Labor and Employee Relations & Compliance at MacB’s corporate headquarters in Dayton. “It’s become an employee tradition, and interest has steadily grown through the years. This year, I plan to race in both the 5k on Friday and 10k on Saturday morning.”
Weather for Friday looks good with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Unfortunately, Saturday weather in Dayton shows a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms at race time, with heavier thunderstorms after 11 a.m. For more details about the 2016 Air Force Marathon, visit www.usafmarathon.com.
Post-Race Update: September 19, 2016
The 2016 U.S. Air Force Marathon weekend was a great success for MacB runners, all of whom participated with great enthusiasm. With temperatures in the 80s and high humidity, many runners welcomed getting caught in the heavy downpours Friday evening and Saturday.
Saturday runners were treated to a flyover by two CV-22 tilt-rotor Osprey aircraft flown by crew from the 20th Special Operations Squadron (20th SOS), based at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico. More than 15,000 runners from all 50 states and 10 countries travelled to Dayton for the race, and MacB was well represented by more than 90 participants throughout weekend events.
“The marathon is always a spectacular event with no disappointments,” said Katherine Gaskill, Senior Director of Labor and Employee Relations & Compliance at MacB. “Our sponsored T-shirts were prevalent among so many runners, and it was truly inspiring to look up and see a coworker on the course, and also witness the camaraderie firsthand.”
